Lavarini's lead in Poland's VNL, won the game four

Stefano Lavarini, once the head of the Korean women's volleyball team, and the momentum of the Polish women's volleyball team led by him is unusual.

The first week of the 2024 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Volleyball Nations League (VNL) women's competition has been completed. The first week of the competition took place in Antalya, Turkiye, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The winner is Poland led by Coach Lavarini, who also made it to the semifinals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The team met Italy, France, the Netherlands and Japan and won a total of 3-0. The team never lost a set. It showed flawless performance.

Not a single player has been listed in the top 10 scoring rankings, but most of the main players are cruising with an even distribution of points.

Poland has yet to win the competition. The third place in the 2023 competition is the best performance in the competition. This time, she will try to win the competition for the first time.

Brazil, which is ranking second, is also showing an upward pace. It beat Canada 3-1, Korea 3-0, the U.S. 3-1 and Serbia 3-0. It is only lagging behind Poland in set gains and losses, and can turn around the ranking at any time.

China, Canada, Italy and Japan rank third to sixth. Turkiye, the winner of the last tournament, got off to a bad start to the first week with two wins, two losses and seven losses. The U.S., the three-time champion in the tournament's history, also got off to a rough start with two wins, two losses and eight losses.

Korea, under new coach Fernando Morales, emerged from its long and lengthy VNL 30-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Thailand in the final game of Week 1. It was the first victory in about three years since the match against Canada on June 15, 2021. Korea also raised its FIVB ranking from 43rd to 37th.

Only 15th-ranked Thailand and 16th-ranked Bulgaria did not win in the first week.

The women's second week will be held in China and Arlington, USA.
